VS Deck and Rail Installs TimberTech in West Vancouver
Low-Maintenance Composite Decks Built for Metro Vancouver Weather
VS Deck & Rail is a certified TimberTech installer in West Vancouver, BC, building composite decks across Ambleside, Dundarave, Caulfeild, the British Properties and Horseshoe Bay. TimberTech’s composite collections carry 25 to 30 year limited warranties and the Advanced PVC lines carry a limited lifetime product warranty — but only when the boards are supplied and installed through a certified installer. No staining, no sealing, and a surface that holds its colour through coastal winters. We bring samples to your house so you are choosing a colour in your own light rather than under showroom lighting.

What Our Customers Are Saying
Building decks in West Vancouver
West Vancouver is the most demanding place we build, and it is demanding in three separate ways at once. The terrain is steep and frequently rock, so footings are a genuine engineering question rather than a formality — what a post can bear on depends on what is actually under it, and on the slopes above Ambleside and through the British Properties that is often bedrock rather than soil.
The second factor is water. The North Shore takes substantially more rain than the south side of the inlet, which puts sustained load on waterproofing, flashing and drainage. A ledger detail that would go unnoticed in Richmond will find you out here. Heavy mature tree cover compounds it: shaded surfaces stay wet longer, moss and organic debris accumulate, and slip resistance and ease of cleaning stop being preferences and start being requirements.
The third is that the housing stock is largely view-oriented and often older, which means decks here are usually elevated, usually the main outdoor room of the house, and frequently sitting over living space. When there is a room, a garage or a suite underneath, that deck is a roof and has to be built like one — which is why so much of our West Vancouver work is vinyl membrane rather than spaced boards.
We work throughout Ambleside, Dundarave, Caulfeild, the British Properties, Cypress Park, Horseshoe Bay, Eagle Harbour and Whytecliff.
The question we are asked most in West Vancouver is whether an older elevated deck can simply be resurfaced. Sometimes, but on a deck of that age over occupied space we open it up before quoting, because the answer lives in the framing and the ledger rather than in the surface.
Permits in West Vancouver. Most deck projects in West Vancouver require a building permit. Which rules apply depends on how high the deck sits above grade, whether it is attached to the house, and the setbacks that apply in your zone. Requirements and processing times are set by the municipality and do change, so we confirm the current position directly with the District of West Vancouver on every project rather than working from memory. We prepare and submit the application as part of the build.
