TimberTech makes great composite decking. They also make it confusing to buy. Walk into any dealer and you’ll hear: AZEK, Reserve, Pro Legacy, Edge Prime, Harvest Collection. These aren’t just colours — they’re fundamentally different products with different materials, different warranties, and very different price points.
The Big Split: Capped Polymer vs. Capped Composite
Capped composite = a wood-fibre and plastic core wrapped in a protective polymer shell. The wood fibre gives the board a natural feel and makes it more affordable to produce. The cap keeps moisture out — but it’s not a perfect seal.
Capped polymer (AZEK) = no wood fibre at all. Pure cellular PVC. Nothing for moisture to absorb into. More dimensionally stable in temperature swings. More expensive to manufacture.
In BC, where a deck might sit in rain for 100+ days a year, this distinction matters a lot.
The TimberTech Lines, Broken Down
AZEK (Capped Polymer) — The Top Tier
Material: 100% cellular PVC — no wood content. Warranty: 30-year limited residential warranty. 30-year fade and stain warranty. Best in the industry. Performance in BC rain: Outstanding. Even if the surface is scratched, the core won’t soak up water.

TimberTech Reserve (Capped Composite) — The Mid-Tier Workhorse
Reserve is where most of our Tsawwassen and Ladner homeowners land. It’s the sweet spot: genuine composite performance, beautiful aesthetics, and a price point that makes sense for the square footage they’re working with.
Warranty: 25-year limited residential warranty. 25-year fade and stain warranty. Worth resealing any cut ends on installation.
TimberTech Pro / Pro Legacy (Capped Composite) — Mid-Entry
The Pro lines bridge Reserve and the entry-level Edge boards. Solid product, 25-year warranty, fewer collection options. Best for projects where composite is a priority but budget is tight.
TimberTech Edge (Capped Composite) — Entry Level
25-year limited warranty. Even the entry-level TimberTech Edge board outperforms cedar or pressure-treated wood in a BC climate on a 10-year cost basis.
Which Line Do We Recommend in BC?
| Situation | Recommended Line |
|---|---|
| Primary living space, staying long-term | AZEK |
| Primary space, mid-budget | Reserve |
| Secondary deck area | Pro |
| Budget-constrained, still want composite | Edge |
One thing we tell every homeowner: go up one tier from what you think you need. The cost difference between Reserve and AZEK on a 400 sq ft deck is a few thousand dollars. The performance difference over 25 years is significant.
What About Permits?
Regardless of which board you choose, decks over a certain height require a building permit. Read our complete guide: Do You Need a Permit for a Deck in Vancouver?
