Duradek Vinyl Decking – Certified Installer in Coquitlam, BC
Waterproof, Low-Maintenance Vinyl Decks Built for the Coast
VS Deck & Rail is a certified Duradek installer in Coquitlam, BC, serving Burke Mountain, Westwood Plateau, Austin Heights and Maillardville. Duradek is a sheet vinyl membrane that is heat-welded at every seam and detailed into the wall, so a deck over a garage, a suite or living space stays a roof as well as a deck. As an authorized installer we supply the membrane through the proper channel and register the installation, which is the only way the full manufacturer warranty applies. On replacements we open the deck up before quoting — what the plywood underneath looks like decides the job.

What Our Customers Are Saying
Building decks in Coquitlam
Coquitlam covers a wider range of building conditions than its size suggests, because it runs from the flats near the Fraser up to Burke Mountain, and a deck on Burke Mountain has very little in common with a deck in Maillardville.
On the upper slopes — Burke Mountain and Westwood Plateau — the lots have real fall to them. Decks come off the back of the house well above grade, which means taller posts, engineered footings, stairs that have to be designed rather than added, and guards meeting the requirement that applies to elevated structures. A great many of these houses also have living space or a garage tucked under the deck, and that single fact changes the project from a deck into a roof: it needs a waterproof membrane, not spaced boards.
Lower down, the picture is different. Austin Heights and Maillardville hold a lot of older housing stock, and on rebuilds there we regularly find framing, ledgers and footings that were adequate to the standards of their day and are not adequate now. We open those decks up before quoting, because what is under the surface decides the job.
Tree cover is the third factor across most of Coquitlam. Shaded decks stay wet longer, which puts more weight on drainage, slip resistance and how easily a surface cleans.
We work throughout Burke Mountain, Westwood Plateau, Austin Heights, Maillardville, Como Lake, Eagle Ridge and Coquitlam Centre.
The question we are asked most in Coquitlam is whether a deck over a garage can be boards instead of membrane. If you want the garage to stay dry, no — spaced boards let water straight through, and a deck over occupied space has to shed it.
Permits in Coquitlam. Most deck projects in Coquitlam require a building permit. Which rules apply depends on how high the deck sits above grade, whether it is attached to the house, and the setbacks that apply in your zone. Requirements and processing times are set by the municipality and do change, so we confirm the current position directly with the City of Coquitlam on every project rather than working from memory. We prepare and submit the application as part of the build.
